Dale Carter – Poor Spending Habits

Hulton Archive

Former Kansas Chiefs cornerback Dale Carter was a Pro Bowler for several years and enjoyed a long and fruitful career at the highest level of the sport. In 1999, Carter signed a four-year, $22.8 million contract with the Denver Broncos and, in 2002, he signed a five-year, $28 million with the New Orleans Saints. However, Carter was apparently not able to keep his spending in line with his income.

Carte once spent $30,000 on jewelry in Atlanta, not to mention he purchased many cars and houses, giving some to relatives. Before long, nearly 20 creditors, including the Broncos and the Internal Revenue Service, were chasing down Carter. In 2002, Carter declared bankruptcy and did a little time for his financial schemes.
