Raymond Clayborn – Bad Investments

Boston Herald

The former New England Patriots’ Raymond Clayborn, once one of the highest-paid defensive backs in the NFL, filed for personal bankruptcy back in 1989. Investments in a real estate deal in Texas left Clayborn nearly $2 million in debt. Even though the investments were initially successful, Clayborn was left holding the notes when the market weakened.

“I don’t want to say very much about it now because I still have to do a few things,” Clayborn said. “But I can say that it involves some real estate holdings I have in Texas. Things are tough down there, and I had to do something to protect myself.” Eventually, Clayborn was able to financially recover and now has a net worth of $8 million!
