Harmon Killebrew – Poor Spending Habits
Harmon “The Killer” Killebrew played in the Minnesota Twins for 15 seasons and was inducted into the Hall of Fame back in 1984. During his 22-year career in MLB, Killebrew was a prolific power hitter who, at the time of his retirement, had the fourth-most home runs in major league history. Following his playing career, the 13-time All-Star worked as a broadcaster and invested in multiple businesses.
However, in the late 1980s, several of these businesses failed and Killebrew began to have financial problems. By July 1988, Killebrew’s house went into foreclosure and, in 1989, he had reportedly fallen $700,000 into debt. Luckily, he was later able to pull himself out of his troubles and passed away in 2011.
