The Most Famous Restaurant Chains That Failed (For Good Reasons!)
Ever wonder why famous failed restaurant chains like Howard Johnson’s and D’Lites went under? Find out here!
20. D’Lites
D’Lites started as a Georgia-based hamburger chain back in 1978. At the time, they were revolutionary! Unlike its competitors, like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s, D’Lites offered low-calorie options like lean hamburgers, high-fiber buns, and low-calorie cheese. With its whole new concept, D’Lites exploded in popularity, opening over 100 locations in just ten years.
Unfortunately, their success wasn’t meant to last long. Soon enough, those bigger, better-known chains also started to offer healthy options to compete with D’Lites. Before long, the company could not keep up. Eventually, the company was forced to close or sell all of its remaining locations. The last D’Lites closed in 1989.
