Ever wonder why famous failed restaurant chains like Howard Johnson’s and D’Lites went under? Find out here!
23. Beefsteak Charlie’s
Beefsteak Charlie’s was a restaurant chain that first started off in Manhattan in the 1910s. However, it wasn’t until the late ’70s that a second location opened. Unlike other failed restaurant chains, Beefsteak Charlie’s did not try and cut corners or offer lower costs – quite the opposite! Believe it or not, Beefsteak Charlie’s was all about spoiling its customers. In fact, the chain’s slogan was “you’re gonna get spoiled” However, they might have gone too far, which led to Beefsteak Charlie’s demise.
Beefsteak Charlie’s offered all you can eat shrimps and salad, as well as beverages, including beer, wine, and sangria. Unsurprisingly, the business model ultimately hit the restaurant chain right where it hurt: their wallet. By 2010, all of Beefsteak Charlie’s had permanently closed its doors.
