The Most Famous Restaurant Chains That Failed (For Good Reasons!)
Ever wonder why famous failed restaurant chains like Howard Johnson’s and D’Lites went under? Find out here!
34. G.D. Ritzy’s
G.D. Ritzy’s started serving up nostalgia way before it became cool, part of why it joined the other failed restaurant chains. Ex-Wendy’s executive Graydon Webb founded the restaurant chain back in 1980. G.D Ritzy’s was a “luxury grill” with a ‘50s diner feel. Not only did they offered hamburgers and hotdogs, but also homemade ice cream!
At its height in the mid-’80s, G.D. Ritzy’s had over 120 different locations. However, the nostalgia did not last long. By 1991, only three remained open. Since then, the number of remaining G.D. Ritzy’s has fluctuated. Today, there are four left: three in Evansville, Indiana and one in Huntington, West Virginia. Boy, Evansville must really love the ’50s…
