The Most Famous Restaurant Chains That Failed (For Good Reasons!)
Ever wonder why famous failed restaurant chains like Howard Johnson’s and D’Lites went under? Find out here!
36. Wetson’s
Herb Wetanson, a Long-Island native, felt inspired to create Wetson’s after we saw McDonald’s for the first time during a road trip out west. Then, with a little help from his family and friends, Wetanson managed to open the very first Wetson’s back in 1959. He went with “Wetson” instead of his real last name, Wetanson, as he thought it would be easier for people to pronounce.
In the beginning, the restaurant chain and its fifty-cent burgers turned into a massive success. However, the chain fell on hard times after McDonald’s and Burger King decided to expand into the New York market in the ’70s aggressively. By the end of the decade, Wetson’s was nothing more than a memory.
