Not all closed restaurant chains come from the ’60s and ’70s. If you grew up in the ’90s, you probably remember when Kenny Rogers Roasters opened! The first Kenny Rogers Roasters opened in 1991 in Coral Springs, Florida. Then, just four years later, the country music star’s restaurant had over 350 locations nationwide. Part of its incredible popularity was due in part to a Seinfeld episode in which Kramer develops an obsession for their chicken.

However, in the 2000s, Kenny Rogers Roasters could not stand up to competition from KFC, Popeyes, and Chick-Fil-A. By 2011, all the U.S. and Canada locations had shut for good. However, the chain remains very popular in many parts of Asia. In fact, there are still 156 locations open worldwide. However, Kenny Rogers is no longer involved with the restaurants.
