7. Lum’s

Closed Restaurant Chains

Miami Herald

The family restaurant chain Lum’s started life in Miami Beach back in the late ‘50s as a hot dog. However, it quickly grew from there – by 1961, Lum’s already had four locations! Famous for their beer-steamed hotdogs, the chain continued to expand throughout the ’60s. Soon enough, Lum’s had over 400 company-owned and franchise restaurants throughout 49 states. Lum’s even had locations in Puerto Rico and Europe!

Over the years, Lum’s sold to new owners twice. Eventually, it ended up under the control of Wienerwald Holdings back in 1978. Unfortunately, that proved to be a step too far for the parent company. They filed for bankruptcy just four years later, and all the locations eventually closed.
