Believe it or not, “there is a published scientific paper about humpbacks protecting other species of animals, by [marine biologist] Robert Pitman,” Hauser said. In Hauser’s mind, this only further proves what she felt that day on the boat: the whale had saved her life. Not only that, but the marine biologist also thinks the video footage is historic.
According to Hauser, the recording of that fateful day captured the first-ever video evidence of a whale trying to protect a human being from danger. And now, she hopes to continue to do more research into human-whale interaction. Meanwhile, others think there’s an even more spiritual reason the whale saved Hauser.
