Of course, everyone knows “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” by Steam, a now-iconic sporting events song. Who doesn’t love singing along? However, not many know who the music is by, or even that it’s a one hit wonder. It’s true! The band behind the song, Steam, charted a massive hit with the single, spending two weeks at the top of the Hot 100 chart back in 1969.
After they released the single, Steam faded into obscurity, and so did “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” – for a little while at least. Then, in 1977, the White Sox organist played the song at a baseball game, and the crowd started to sing along. Soon enough, other stadiums did the same! Now, no sporting event is complete without “Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye.”
