Sadly, while you can certainly take a trip down One Hit Wonder Memory Lane, Funkytown is not a real place that you can visit – at least not yet! However, just hearing the name “Funkytown” can take you right back to the time when disco clubs and leisure suits were all the rage. While Lipps Inc. may never have enjoyed another Hot 100 hit, there’s no doubt they’ll go down in the disco hall of fame!
Unfortunately, Lipps Inc.’s later singles failed to match the band’s initial success of “Funkytown.” Just five years after they released their biggest tune, in 1985, the band split up for good and remains split today.
