Sometimes, the original recording artist does not get the credit they deserve. While Bobby Day earned his one hit wonder status with his earworm “Rockin’ Robin” in 1958, he’s since been bested by the likes of the Jackson 5. Still, while most people know the Jackson 5’s version of “Rockin’ Robin” better than they know the original, Day never begrudged the group.
Soon after penning “Rockin’ Robin,” in 1960, Day realized performing was not for him. So, he spent the rest of his musical career concentrating on songwriting. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 60-years-old, in 1990.
