Who can ever forget “Magic,” the first – and only – hit single from the Scottish band Pilot, released in 1974? It managed to reach number five on the Billboard Hot 100 after its release and ended up at number 31 on the end-of-the-year chart for ’74. While the band tried to chart with other songs, like “Just A Smile” and “Call Me Round,” they just never found significant success again. Still, that hasn’t stopped them from reuniting a couple of times since the ’70s, most recently in 2021!
Meanwhile, when Pilot released “Magic,” they never expected the song would become a hit for another artist, some thirty-five years later. However, that’s precisely what happened when Selena Gomez covered the song for the Wizards of Waverly Place soundtrack.
