Japan In Her Blood

In her music, Stuart often plays a traditional Japanese instrument, known as the koto. The stringed instrument, which is incredibly popular in its home country, is a little like a zither, but has a far broader spectrum and library of sounds. It seems Japan is in Stuart’s blood!

“My mother played koto from long before I was born,” Stuart explained to Time Out Magazine. “When my family lived in Japan for one year when I was 9-years-old, my mother wanted to continue her koto lessons, and I asked her if I could study koto too, and that’s how it happened!” While Stuart loved making music, as a young adult, she could not shake wondering about what happened to Fukue. Soon, the desire to find her childhood best friend took over her life!
