They Can’t Vote

In the UK, no citizen can be disbarred from voting, so this rule is in no way the law of the state. However, it is a norm enforced only by Kate and Meghan’s willingness to obey the Queen’s wishes. Furthermore, the members of the royal family are not supposed to run for office or apply for parliament.
The Queen believes by abstaining from voting and office, the royal family can remain neutral regarding domestic politics. Not to mention, leaning one way or the other could endanger their popularity and image. However, Meghan Markle doesn’t need to worry about this too much. Even if she wanted to vote, she could not until she becomes a UK citizen. Even then, few would go against the Queen’s wishes.
