Born into poverty in rural Mississippi, Oprah Winfrey had to overcome horrible abuse and discrimination to get where she is today. While she has remained a beloved cultural icon for decades now, it wasn’t always like that. Believe it or not, Winfrey was once just a slowly local reporter! However, she worked her way up to anchor and then eventually, as we all know, the host of the highest-rated talk show in television history.
Not only that, but, along the way, Winfrey also became the first woman to both own and produce a TV show. Not one to horde her wealth, she donates millions to charity every year, earning her the Presidential Medal of Freedom back in 2013. Today, Oprah has a fortune estimated at $2.7 billion!
