While mountains and rivers certainly draw many visitors to the “wild and wonderful” West Virginia, its terrible economy is forcing its residents to move out, especially millennials. To make matters worse, West Virginia’s unemployment rate is higher than most other states, and job growth has been sluggish. As young people are often those most in need of jobs, over half the people moving out of the state are 44 or younger.

Horribly, West Virginia’s opioid devastating crisis is also affecting business and their ability to create new jobs. Many small and independent businesses claim that they have seen employee health insurance costs soar, stopping them from adding on new positions.
