Maryland is a treasure trove of American history and outdoor activities. However, that doesn’t mean that its residents actually want to stay there! You see, its high cost of living, above-average health care costs, and exorbitant taxes are forcing younger Marylanders to look elsewhere for homes.
To make matters worse, older people are also leaving Maryland in search of a more affordable retirement. In fact, half of the people who left the state in 2018 were 55 and older. In response to its massive loss of citizens, the governor of Maryland has proposed to cut taxes in the state by $500 million within the next five years.
