While Wisconsin certainly offers many midwest charms, it’s not enough to keep its citizens from packing up their bags and moving on out. This is in spite of the fact that the state features a low cost of living and steady employment growth. Then why are 54% of the state’s moves outbound? Well, that may have something to do with the housing prices!

Groceries and utilities might be cheap in Wisconsin, but the average price of a house has been rising rapidly, and now sits at record levels. On top of that, the state’s long, brutal winters don’t help the situation much. So, it’s really no surprise that more than half the people who moved out last year were 55 and older. After all, they must be looking for a warmer location to enjoy their retirement!
