Typically, album cancels come from the record companies, who fear the album will fail. However, in this case, it was the late legend Prince who reportedly canceled the release of what the titledĀ The Black Album. Apparently, after a bad drug trip, he suddenly decided the record was āevilā and paid Warner Bros. Records to recall the 500,000-copy run.
Fortunately for collectors, Eventually, Prince officially released The Black Album in 1994. However, those later copies don’t sell for much. On the other hand, two original pressings have sold for $27,500 and $42,300 in recent years! That’s one expensive record!
