In an interview with the Washington Post, Stokke said that the comments about her looks at the age of 17 might not be strictly illegal, but that it still hurt as though someone had physically assaulted her. Of course, when one member of the family hurts, the whole family hurts. Stokke’s mother and father had no idea what to do. “She wanted to be known for her ability to pole vault. That’s what she wanted,” her mother, Cindy, stated.
While he could not stop the posts, Stokke’s father, a professional lawyer, took it upon himself to monitor those talking online about his daughter, keeping an eye out for potential threats and immediately reporting them. What an awesome father! Unfortunately, there was little they could do to change the way other people thought…
